just a big thank you!

You may have noticed (or not), that I haven’t posted a photo for some days now….usually this is due to my laziness/busy-ness. But not this time. I stupidly formatted my camera memory card, erasing several days of photos I thought I’d downloaded. What a duffer!!

Thankfully my far-too-smart hubby came to the rescue. He’s a software engineer, and has on more than one occasion (three to be exact), saved my poor memory cards. He has found a wonderful little open-source piece of programming that will recover information stored on deleted or formatted files. He had to amend the script a touch to get the program to look for RAW files and not jpg’s. Clever. Thankfully he recovered EVERYTHING I lost. YAY!

He’s planning on putting his amendment and the original source-code on his website Insyte Solutions in the coming weeks. It’s not a GUI program (aka, there’s no window, it’s used from the command line) – so I guess only people familiar with scripting/command line will really get it. Very useful for those who do understand it though!!

The source-code itself is called SAVEIMG. It’s aimed at Unix/Linux users.

I will be back to post the previous weeks’ photos in the next day or so.

THEME FOR MARCH – macro vs monochrome!

Morning bloggers! I have decided to give myself a theme for my 365 project for photos taken in March. The theme? Macro and/or monochrome. The challenge, to use my extension tubes where I can, and to increase my skill in the art of black an white photography.

Just a quick note though…the theme isn’t just restricting me to macro shots…I’d imagine that may get boring to view, so that’s why I added the monochrome theme too, it gives me license to take landscapes, portraits etc and mix it up a bit this month. I guess the only ‘rule’ then, is to make my photos B&W…..maybe I should have just called the March theme “March in Monochrome”……*sigh*….

my 365 photoblog challenge

I’m challenging myself to a year of photo taking and blogging. Let’s hope I stick to it and do something vaguely interesting in the process.

Today is the 5th day of the new year and I’m being over-run by ants!! Seriously! Who sits at their computer desk and gets mauled by ants?!!?       I digress…

Today is day 5 of 365. I have taken photos (which I will shortly post) for the first 4 days…consistency is key! Now…to shoo off these ants and find something to photograph for day 5…
