My first attempt at a panorama deserved it’s own post instead of being bulked with a catch-up post. MOST definitely worth checking out the big on black version!
I used the pandora script for GIMP that helps with the panorama creation process….a great little tool!!
I neglected to make sure there was no ghosting before uploading. I should have rectified it, but am a touch too far behind to go back right now and fix it.

What a lovely start to the morning. We spent the day cast-netting and throwing back little fish. On our way back to the boat ramp, our engine died!! We were delightfully stuck in the middle of the creek (thankfully, with a paddle or two!).
Some wonderful fishy-folk came along shortly after and towed us back in. Thank you guys!! We had nothing to show for the day except for a broken engine and a gashed foot. Depressing. We’ll be back fishies!!
I opted to process this image entirely in UFRaw. Here’s my adjustment ‘recipe’:
temperature – 15000K
green – 1.342
slight s-curve in the Manual Curve tab
gamma – 0.45
linearity – 0.093
saturation – 1.10
black point – 0.071

My daughter and I went for a walk up one of the local hills today. She had a blast!
Processing:
UFRAW – NIL
GIMP – auto-levels, slight s-curve in value curves…

ANZAC day today. A day to honour those that had fallen in Gallipoli and other battles and wars. War is such tragedy.
Lest we forget!
My husband and I decided to cart the kids on a walk over the bluff nearby. It was a beautiful day and the girls had a ball. My photo is of a fence down the bottom of the hill in the picnic area. I overexposed the life out of the original shot – thank goodness for RAW.
My RAW processing through UFRaw involved the Shade WB setting and Auto-exposuree. The original image is a tad out of focus, so after using auto-levels in GIMP, I also did an Unsharp Mask filter to sharpen the edges a touch. My settings were Radius=5.0; Amount=1.0; Threshold=8. It worked brilliantly. I added a softlight layer at 50% opacity to increase contrast.

Found a spiderweb glinting merrily in the sunset light. So I snapped it. You can see the spider perched blurrily in the middle of the web.
No adjustments made in the RAW conversion from UFRaw to GIMP. In GIMP I added my favourite layer, a soft light layer. I think I love contrast, which is what soft light helps to add to an image. It is hands-down my favourite post-processing technique of late.

I really really really (etc) love this photo! And I love what the processing made it look like.
It was a busy day today, we went sand hunting, played in the sand pit, and eventually, the girls were taken to the beach by daddy. I showed up (after getting tea organised), in time to take a couple of photos of the girls washing all the sand off.
Little done in UFRaw to convert the photo from RAW to JPG. In GIMP I added two layers, a screen layer and a colour layer similar to the photo for yesterday. Again it was reddy-brown (ochre) and set at grain merge. I adjusted the opacity to get the look I was after.

Final blog catch up. Finally, we have colour!!
DAY 91

These are cupcakes I made for my little girls 1st birthday party. Where did that year go!?!?! Texture used in this photo is Sandstone Scratch by pareeerica.
DAY 92

Beach sunrise. This photo is best viewed large! The sunrise was uninspiring, but it was nice to get out anyway.

I got my fancy new wireless remote shutter release gizmo today! So i tried it out. My husband is away for a few days, so I couldn’t go anywhere more exotic than my own backyard to try my first really long exposure of the night sky.
Unfortunately, I had the ISO a little too high on this shot, but it still works, I think. It was a windy night, and in the shot you can see the trees going everywhere, my clothesline zipping around in circles, and the clouds moving along in the sky.
In UFRaw I had a tricky decisions for the WB, in the end I chose auto WB. In GIMP I added a second layer after auto-levels and desaturating the base layer. I made the top layer grain merge to help darken the sky and let the stars shine through. This also made what was a VERY bright wall become darker too.
I’m looking forward to trying a few more of these types of shots out. This shot was a 754 second exposure

Rain rain rain…and now, WIND too.
Went on my weekly walk around the bluff this morning. The tide was in, the waves were crashing, the surfers were out. And I was getting wet!! Darn weather. I kept getting caught in blustery squalls sweeping across the coast. I stayed dry most of the time, as did my camera. Thankfully. One of the look outs on the bluff walk was like being in a wind tunnel…it was insanely breezy! Cleverly, I took off my hat before I stepped out onto the look out. I still have my hat!
Nothing too fancy in processing for this shot today. In UFRaw I used the Cloudy WB setting…surprisingly….or not. In GIMP I added a hard light layer after first desaturating and using auto-levels on the original layer.

Was in a rush tonight, so I dashed off to the nearest beach and snapped a few shots before bolting off home again.
Processed through UFRaw with one adjustment – changing the white balance from Camera WB to Cloudy. In GIMP I did an auto-level adjustment. Mind you, this did absolutely nothing, so I shouldn’t have bothered! Obviously I desaturated the image too.
