Went to writers group tonight – the inaugural meeting. Felt inspired by pen and paper after that. I played around with my zoom when taking this shot, it almost looks super-imposed.
No adjustments done in conversion from UFRaw to GIMP. In GIMP I did an auto-levels adjustment and desaturated the image with the Luminosity box checked.

This post is a LONG one. Rather busy over the last couple of days and busier over easter, so I’m taking the small time I have to do a bulk post of the last few days. These images represent the end of Monochrome March, April’s colour will be delightful!! Have been looking forward to it!
DAY 88

I made a lightbox today – I’ll do a post soon on how I did it. I basically used an old nappy box and chopped it to bits.
DAY 89

Uninspired today. Used a few layers in GIMP to create the grainy effect.
DAY 90

Like my brain today, this is a fuzzy photo. Last black and white I’ll do for a while I think! The photo is of a couple of water bottles.

The title may be odd, but the photo was taken at our local tennis club, which had its official opening on the weekend. The sun was low in the sky and made for some excellent photo opportunities. My eldest daughter stood still for the briefest second so I could take this shot.
In UFRaw I used the Daylight WB setting…that’s it. In GIMP I did a few more tricky things. I first desaturated with the Luminosity setting. Then using a combination of the clone tool and smudge tool, I wiped away all the cupcake crumbs she had all over her face. I then added a screen layer which had the effect of washing out the photo to make it nice and bright.

This has been the latest craze in my house, playdough. Too lazy to make it myself, I lashed out on a few tubs of it. It has kept my eldest entertained for HOURS! My youngest thinks it’s tasty. BLURK!
From UFRaw to GIMP, I used the Camera WB, and left the exposure as is. In GIMP I desaturated the picture with the average setting. I added a soft light layer also.

Still catching up….still no time to write an in-depth post. Sorry!!! Didn’t actually do much to the photo today (no time), just some desaturation.

My aloe vera garden…
Again used a technique using layer masks to create the blur around the aloe vera plants. I’ll do my very best to add a blog entry on this technique, however, a quick google search will find you many a tutorial.
Nearing the end of monochrome March – looking forward to some colour.

My youngest daughter trying to broaden her vocabulary. Very cute!
Used a texture from rubyblossom. and did a little bit of layer masking in GIMP. For more information on layer masks, see this post. I was too lazy and basically catching up on blog entries to do an indepth discussion on this.

A last minute photo again today. It was 10pm, I was kicking back watching a movie, and was randomly snapping from my position on the floor.
In UFRaw I adjusted the exposure manually and used the Camera’s WB. In GIMP I added 2 layers – a dodge layer and a texture layer set at multiply. I adjusted the opacity sliders until I got the look I wanted. I used a texture from rubyblossom.

Oops – did it again….accidentally skipped a day in my blog. This is the problem with doing a bunch of days in one go – I lose track of what day is which.
Another camera phone shot of a fly swat. This fly-weapon was gleefully used a few hours earlier as I chased flies out of the kitchen.

Getting slowly towards the end of my monochrome month….I’m looking forward to colour again!!
This spiderweb was HUGE! I was peering into some bushes thinking about the type of shots I could take in here when BOOM! great big spiderweb in front of me. I was very pleased it was empty of the owner! Made a good shot though….when it stood still! We had a cyclone heading towards the coast today, and so the web was getting whipped about in the gale force winds. Made for an interesting walk over the hill though!
